The controversial Golden Compass movie has premiered at the Odeon Leicester Square in London last night, and it was yet another shot for the real stars to strut it on the red carpet. And yes, it was a night to remember, fashion-wise I mean, since we now have plenty of material for further observation and consideration. The Golden Compass, I remind you, is a fantasy flick, New Line Cinema's new project and hopefully, yet another million dollar baby, after the much-acclaimed Lord of the Rings trilogy. It stars the uber-sexy James Bond hot piece Daniel Craig, his casino Royale Bond Girl Eva Green and the ever-icy Nicole Kidman - among many great others. But let us have a closer look at the three leading cast members we just mentioned and see who rocked and who sucked in the "looks and fashion choices" department - for starters.
1.Daniel Craig
I 'm fully aware it's not that polite - not to mention smart - to start with the male in this little crowd of three, but come on, this is Daniel Craig we're talking about here. No, don't worry, I'm not going to make a James Bond joke here, although - I admit - I was tempted to call him "Craig. Daniel Craig" at one point. No, I'm just going to say that he looked good, stunned us (OK, me) with his icy looks and only managed to look slightly shorter than the lady on his arm. It's funny how I always imagine him to be a lot taller than he really is, but, I must say, he still manages to look a lot classier being of medium height than, say, Tom Cruise. Not to mention a lot "manlier" than he was given credit for before the world got to see his brilliant performance in the previous Bond movie.
2.Eva Green
Without a doubt, Eva Green stole the evening. Her classy, sequined, backless dress, enviable figure and classy make-up (maybe that shade of lipstick was a bit too much, but it was, in the end, in tone with the dramatic black outfit), all made her shine a lot brighter than her fellow red-carpet star, Nicole Kidman. But we'll get to her in a minute. In the movie, Eva plays a graceful witch (quite a suitable part, I'd say) who helps the main character and turns out to be quite the warrior when it comes to the fight scenes. I'm sure you'll enjoy her performance in the movie just as much as her photos.
3.Nicole Kidman
Oh, boy, where do I start... Well, Nicole looks OK when you look at her from a distance, and her dress is not half-bad, making the most of her slim figure. My two main issues, however, are the hair, which looks startlingly thin, and her face, which once again seems pale as death and botoxed to perfection. Nicole's unmoving mask... I mean, face has become a bit of a joke anyway, and the latest blow to the Australian actress comes from the people at Radar magazine, who put a doll-like representation of Kidman on the December 2007/January 2008 cover under a headline that reads "HELP! I CAN'T MOVE MY FACE! And other true tales of Hollywood's plastic surgery addiction". In case that doesn't convince you, just take another look at these photos of Nicole from the Golden Compass premiere and you'll quickly come to see their point. I'll reserve further judgment on Nicole's acting for another time. But really, that face is starting to scare me. Take the strange, plastic-looking lady away, mommy!
