DFI isn't the only company with an offer for the industrial segment, as Eurotech will also introduce its own embedded system very soon. The product, known as the Catalyst LP, will address similar areas as DFI's LR100-N16M mini-ITX motherboard, namely those applications that require advanced data retrieval and processing capabilities, including the industrial, gaming, human-machine interface and medical markets, among others.

The actual offering is made up of a single-core Atom N450 or the dual-core D510 central processor. These chips run at 1.66 GHz and are paired with the Intel ICH8M companion chip and the GMA 3150 graphics controller. The product is designed with up to 2 GB of DDR2 SDRAM at 667 MHz. It also features two SATA ports and 64MB of on-board flash memory (optional). Of course, no system, regardless of type, would be complete without an array of I/O options. The Catalyst LP has nine USB 2.0 connectors, a VGA port, a single-channel LVDS with 18-bit color interface connector and Gigabit Ethernet connectivity.

"At Eurotech we align our product development concurrent with processor availability, making the latest technology accessible to progressive OEM customers," said Hilary Tomasson, vice president of marketing for Eurotech Inc. "Eurotech offers a seamless migration pattern for customers ready to take advantage of the new Intel Atom processors immediately in our Catalyst form factor. The Catalyst LP system from Eurotech offers OEMs easy application development options in both single core and dual core configurations."

The Catalyst LP is capable of high-end 2-D and 3-D visualization and its small and fanless design even makes it suited for handheld devices. Furthermore, the embedded system is designed with support for multiple operating systems, including Windows CE 6.0, Windows Embedded Standard and the Wind River distribution of Linux, as well as the Java-based IDE environment known as The Everyware Software Framework.

The exact release date has not been given as of yet, but the system is set to become available during the first quarter of 2010.
