Not very fair

Killzone 2 is one of the most expected games that will be launched at the beginning of this year. This PlayStation 3 exclusive promises to bring back the same non-stop action that made the first Killzone installment in the series a great success among Sony fans. However, although it is slated to appear on February 25 in Europe and on February 27 in North America, it seems that a demo of the game might soon be released.

Should you expect this demonstration to arrive for free across all territories, then you're very wrong, as Sony has announced that it will be made available with some differences between the North American and the European variants.

The residents of the United States will only gain access to the demo of Killzone 2 provided they pre-order the game at any GameStop store. Once they pay for it, they will get a special code with which they can redeem the demonstration over the PlayStation Network. This “deal” will only be available before the title launches, as after that all North American residents will be able to download it.

Nevertheless, it seems that Sony proves to have a rather more friendly attitude towards European citizens, as it has revealed that the demonstration for Killzone 2 will be launched for free on the UK PlayStation Store. “We are getting the demo, but it will be released via the normal manner on the PSN,” a Sony press release, meant to settle the rumors that have been flying around the Internet, shows.

Although it doesn't stand as a complete confirmation of the rumor, “normal manner” probably means that a couple of weeks before the game will be released the demo will be made available on the European PlayStation Store. However, this region-locking problem can be easily bypassed, if users make another account and set their country to one found in Europe.

Let's just hope that every gamer will be able to enjoy this future demonstration of the title, and that it will help them decide whether they will buy the complete version or not. Until then, Killzone fans will still need to fill their time with the original game, or with the PlayStation Portable exclusive Killzone: Liberation.
