And since Sony was in a good mood, they dropped the price on Platinum titles too

Sony's finally considering a price drop for their shiny black handheld gaming system, the PSP. In Europe that is. Currently, the PSP retails for GBP 149.99 / EUR 199.99. Thus, as of May 4 the PSP will retail for no more, no less than GBP 129.99 in the UK and EUR 169.99 in the rest of Europe, as gameindustry.biz reports. You may recall that earlier this month, the PSP saw a price cut in the US too, by $30. Currently it costs $169.99 to acquire one.

And since Sony was in a good mood, in addition to the PSP price drop in Europe the company is also dropping the price for Platinum titles for the handheld to GBP 14.99, with five games down for release at the new price point - Ridge Racer 2, Tekken, Killzone, LocoRoco and Moto GP.

SCE UK managing director Ray Maguire said: "PSP is unique and is constantly evolving. It offers the widest palette of mobile entertainment, from gaming to video, music, photos and Internet. But now the exciting possibility of connecting remotely to PlayStation 3 makes PSP more relevant than ever. So what better time to offer a brand new price point, and the launch of five new Platinum titles?"

Nice speech, what can I say, and the price drop is also nice, but why isn't there any word on the new and improved PSP? A month ago or so, Sony said that they were considering a new lighter model for a handheld gaming device. Since then, no word on it. When Ray Maguire said "...what better time to offer brand new..." PSP2 would have been a wonderful addition to the sentence.
