Even though LCDs don't seem to have sold as well as one may have expected on Black Friday, NEC does not feel at all disinclined to expand availability of one of its monitors, in this case a certain IPS model.

Since the holiday shopping season can be said to be about to start, if it hasn't already, it is no surprise that IT players are raising the stakes of their gambles.

NEC, of course, is not bound to miss any opportunities, although its tactics aren't at all as aggressive as those that Rambus has chosen to employ.

For those that do not know yet, Rambus decided to start December by suing a number of companies on day one.

NEC instead decided to prepare for and celebrate the holidays with, or so it hopes, more sales, this time by expanding the availability of one of its monitors.

The display in question is one MultiSync EA232WMi, which was actually made official about a month ago but has now been sent to European stores as well.

Essentially, it is a 23-inch IPS panel-using product with W-LED backlighting and a native resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels.

Its maximum brightness is of 300 cd/m2, while the contrast ratio is of 1,000:1 (dynamic contrast ratio of 25,000:1) and the response time if of 14ms.

Additionally, NEC implemented an ambient light sensor and a pair of 1W speakers, plus multiple connectors, and that implies more than just video inputs.

In other words, the EA232WMi has four USB ports besides the DisplayPort, DVI and D-Sub.

Other specifications include a stand with height adjustments, pivot and tilt options, as well as a one touch ECO button, which activates the ECO power saving mode.

European retailers should shortly list the product with a price of 374 Euro, if they haven't already.
