The team at the Paradox Development Studios is ready to deliver a new diary for the upcoming Wealth of Nations expansion for Europa Universalis IV, which is entirely focused on religion and the ways it is improved to better suit the other game mechanics.

The studio says that players will be able to experience the new Reformed Religion, the Calvinist faith that was mostly embraced by the Dutch and which promoted a more focused work ethic for its adherents.

Paradox states on its forums that, “Reformed nations can direct the industriousness of their people via a new concept called Fervor. The player will get a base value of 2 Fervor points per month if the nation is at peace and 1 per month if it is at war. Like most things in EU, this rate is also infuenced by things like prestige and stability. If its not used it’s stored.”

The new religion can be adopted by nations that are forward looking when it comes to tech and tend to also invest heavily in their trading power.

Once enough Fervor is accrued, gamers can choose to use it to boost their global trade power, their morale for armies and navies or their stability.

Each will have an associated cost and players will be able to choose whether to run one of the bonuses all the time or if they want to save up in order to run all three when a big crisis strikes.

The addition of Trade Companies in Wealth of Nations also means that there are 50 new events for Hindu rulers alongside a personal deity system.

This means that players can choose between Shiva, Ganesha, Surya, Ganga, Shakti and Vishnu, each with a set of bonuses and with different ways of interacting with the rest of the game’s mechanics.

The Papacy is also getting some changes and Paradox adds, “you will now be able to automate cardinal influence, by using a checkbox next to each cardinal. With that checked the game will automatically assign enough influence to selected cardinals to keep your guy ahead in the competition.”

All the new religion mechanics will only be part of the Wealth of Nations for Europa Universalis IV and will not be part of the big game patch that will accompany the launch of the new content.

Gamers who purchase the expansion will be able to experience a better trade system, using Trade Companies and privateers to compete with their rivals.
