Gamers can create cooler alternative history moments

Europa Universalis IV is a very complex grand strategy title, but the developers at Paradox are aiming to add even more depth to the game by introducing a new Nation Designer feature in the coming El Dorado expansion pack.

The most recent development diary for the title and an associated Twitch stream are offering information on the concept, which is designed to allow gamers to create their own unique nations to play as, regardless of the game mode or the start date, although it cannot be used on saves.

Initially, players will be able to choose a capital city, which cannot be changed afterwards.

Paradox Development Studio explains that “You can freely add or remove provinces from your new nation, though each point of base tax and base manpower deducts from your 200 point allowance. What does 200 points buy you? A country somewhere between Hungary and Austria in strength in 1444 - a low-end major power. You can’t build France with 200 points, but how many big blue blobs do we need?”

The appearance of a country created in Europa Universalis IV with the Nation Designer, its government and its ideas can also be tweaked.

Any element of a faction can be customized and the prices that gamers will have to pay are based on location and other factors.

Ideas are crucial to Europa Universalis IV

When it comes to choosing the ideas that a nation can use to boost its strength as the game progresses, players can pick from more than 90 different modifiers linked to administration, military and diplomacy.

Paradox adds, “The first level of most modifiers is free, with an exponentially increasing cost for higher levels, and steep penalties for having more than 50% of your total modifier levels come from a single type - you can’t be all Military unless you’re willing to give up the higher level bonuses.”

Europa Universalis IV supports up to 32 custom nations in the same game.

There are also new game settings linked to the Nation Designer feature.

The developers are also tweaking how client states and revolutions are working based on the new concept.

El Dorado for Europa Universalis IV will be out in February via digital distribution platforms.

The developers are also aiming to introduce a new religion for nations in the middle of the American continents and there are other tweaks to exploration and to the way trading works.
