The team at the Paradox Development Studio is delivering a new developer diary for its upcoming Europa Universalis IV, which focuses on the warfare mechanics on land and water.

The new grand strategy game will take the player to the Middle Ages and will introduce a number of new mechanics, most of them peaceful, designed to allow them to assert their domination over neighbors.

The team adds, “However, when those fail, you’re probably going to have to crack some skulls.”

Thomas Johansson, the leader of the team working on Europa Universalis IV, offers information on how the pace of warfare has changed and how new mechanics have been introduced to make wars more decisive.

Fans can also see the game in action.

The game is set to arrive on the PC on August 13.
