The company says so at any rate, and it may very well be true

All the talk about ultrabooks may have made people think all laptop makers are focusing on slim and light models, but Eurocom has easily smashed that idea to pieces now that the Panther 4.0 is ready.

The form factor of the new product clearly places the system in the notebook category, but the rest of its features hardly have the same effect.

Even the weight alone challenges the idea of this thing being a “mobile” personal computers.

After all, 12 lbs, or 5.5 kilograms, is more than many people can carry around without tiring.

Then again, the hardware specifications are top notch, even for the high-end market.

An Intel LGA 2011 (Core i7 Extreme or Xeon) central processing unit (CPU) lies at the heart of the machine and is paired with up to two NVIDIA discrete GPUs in SLI mode (GeForce GTX 580M, Quadro 5010M/4000M/3000M) or AMD Radeon HD 6990M/6970M in CrossFireX.

Up to 32GB of DDR3 RAM can be crammed alongside them (eight SODIMM modules at 1,600 MHz), plus four physical SSDs/HDDs/hybrid drives (4 TB maximum, possibly in RAID 0/1/5/10).

Furthermore, there are three USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, eSATA, FireWire-400, a DisplayPort, DVI, HDMI, networking and audio.

"The Panther 4.0 3D is here, a system that offers the power of 580M SLI with the enhanced viewing capability of NVIDIA 3D vision, to give our customers exactly what they want" says Mark BIalic, Eurocom president.

"For our professional clients using our Mobile Workstations with NVIDIA Quadro GPUs, support for Quad buffered 3D technology gives them a great 3D experience on a mobile super computing platform."

Eurocom's Panther 4.0 measures 419 (W) x 286 (D) x 57.9-62.1 (H) mm (16.76 x 11.44 x 2.31-2.48 inches) and features the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) BIOS, plus, obviously, the X79 chipset. Unfortunately, no price was provided, though we suspect a sum of $3,500 / 2,687 Euro.
