Eurocom recently announced that its high-performance 15.6-inch Racer, as well as a few other of the company's notebook models, powered by Intel Sandy Bridge processors and AMD or Nvidia discrete can now be configured to feature the Core i7-2960XM Processor Extreme Edition.

This is Intel's most powerful mobile Sandy Bridge processor as it packs no less than four cores with Hyper-Threading support, 8MB of Level 3 cache and comes with a base clock of 2.7GHz (3.7GHz maximum Turbo).

The Core i7-2960XM was launched just a little more than a week ago and, from what we know, Eurcom is the first company to include it in its laptops.

“Eurocom is always striving to offer the best available technology, and in our mind the second generation Intel Core i7 Mobile Processors will greatly improve our Business and Gaming Notebooks, through increased efficiency and performance” said Mark Bialic, Eurocom President.

Outside of the new Intel processor, the 15.6-icnh Eurocom Racer can be configured to feature a maximum of 32GB of DDR3 memory and packs two drive bays capable of carrying a pair of SSD, hybrid or mechanical drives to provide up to 1.75TB of storage.

Graphics options include the Nvidia GeForce GTX 580M, AMD Radeon Mobility HD6990M or Nvidia Quadro FX 5010M equipped with 2GB of video memory.

Other features include a 9-in-1 card reader, a pair of USB 3.0 ports, DVI and HDMI video outputs, an eSATA port, on-board Gigabit LAN and various wireless card options (Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi plus Bluetooth, and/or 3.75G UMTS/HSDPA).

The screen measures 15.6-inch in diagonal, is LED backlit, supports Full HD resolutions and is available with a glossy or matte finish.

Apart from the Racer, the Core i7-2960XM is also available in the Eurocom Neptune, Fox 2.0, and Lynx 3.0. As far as the Racer is regarded, the new Intel processor is listed as a $685, or 550 Euro, upgrade.
