Eurocom's Monster Ultraportable laptop is a mobile personal computer which, in spite of its size, definitely lives up to its name. Just like some of the smallest monsters in fiction can be the most dangerous.

Monster 1.0 is an 11.6-inch ultraportable notebook that has been around for a fair bit already. The company felt it was a good time for the product to make the news again though.

The reason? A new hard disk drive unit. Since the ultraportable can already have 16 GB of RAM, it can run multiple virtual machines at once. It just needs storage to hold them all, and personal files.

Thus, the 1.5 TB Travelstar 5k1500 SATA 6 Gb/s hard disk drive has been added to the specifications list.

Said HDD was made by HGST, formerly Hitachi Global Storage Technologies and now wholly owned subsidiary of Western Digital.

The HDD is a SATA III unit (SATA 6 Gbps), 32 MB buffer, a platter speed of 5,400 RPM (rotations per minute), 600,000 load/unload cycles, 0.5W low power idle, operating shock of 400G/2ms and a top media transfer rate of 990 Mbps.

"The Monster is a small form factor ultraportable notebook capable of running multiple virtual machines and multiple operating systems with up to 16GB memory and 1.5 TB storage while weighing under 4 lbs and having a battery that lasts over 400 minutes!" Mark Bialic, Eurocom president.

For those who need a reminder in regard to the rest of the hardware, Eurocom Monster 1.0 has an Intel CPU (several options), an HD LCD (1366 x 768 pixels resolution screen) and an NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M graphics card with 384 CUDA cores, 2 GB video memory, and a graphics frequency of 850 MHz.

With Optimus running, the notebook can last for 410 minutes on a single battery charge (6.83 – 7 hours). The base configuration costs $825 / €692.
