Eurocom, a company well renowned for its high-performance notebooks and mobile workstation, has just announced that it updated its high-end Panther series laptops to support Intel’s Sandy Bridge-E processors.

Just as before, Eurocom based its mobile workstation on a Clevo design, the P270WM, which includes an Intel X79 motherboard with support for desktop LGA 2011 processors.

So far, customers have the option of choosing between the Core i7-3930K and the Core i7-3960X CPUs, but in about a month’s time these will also be joined by the Core i7-3820.

Both of the processors that are available today are based on the Sandy Bridge-E architecture, pack six computing cores with Hyper-Threading support, up to 15MB of level 3 cache memory and have a TDP of 130W.

The integrated memory controller found inside the Intel chips can access up to four memory channels which can be packed with as much as 32GB of RAM.

For graphics duty, the standard Panther 4.0 comes configured with a Nvidia GeForce GTX 580M GPU, but users also have the option of equipping their notebook with a second GTX 580M for SLI operation or go for the Quadro 5010M professional GPU.

As far as storage is concerned, the machine packs no less than four physical drive bays, that can be populated with HDD, SSD of hybrid storage solutions, and supports the RAID 0/1/5/10 operation modes.

Just as it was the case with the previous 3.0 model, the screen used for the Panther measures 17.3-inch in diagonal and supports a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels.

"It's a workstation-caliber PC complete with Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) in a notebook form factor," said Mark Bialic, President of Eurocom.

"It may be large, but this is one extremely fast notebook that replaces desktop based workstation with over 1 hour of built-in UPS battery,” concluded the company’s rep.

Pricing and availability wasn’t mentioned, but the rest of the Clevo P270WM-based solutions announced so far will start at above $3000.00 (roughly 2,300 EUR).
