The recent disaster that struck Japan showcased once more the importance of preparedness, of always having around products that will be able to potentially save your life in case of a calamity, and that's exactly the type of gadget we'll talk about as follows, namely the Eton Weather Radio, presented by Grundig.

Well, to be perfectly honest, this thing is a whole lot more than a simple weather radio, its full name, namely the Eton ARCPT300W American Red Cross Axis Self-Powered Safety Hub with Weather Radio and USB Cell Phone Charger, providing a much clearer insight into the relatively wide range of features and functions this thing can provide.

So, first and foremost, it's important to mention that this thing can easily tune to the radio frequencies most commonly used in case of an emergency, namely AM (520-1710 KHz) & FM (87-108MHz), NOAA weatherband - all 7 channels plus "Alert".

But that's not all, since the the device also comes packed with a self-powered aluminum crank with hand turbine technology, that can be used for powering the radio itself (its rechargeable NiMH battery, to be precise), but also for charging USB devices via an appropriate port.

And speaking of power, we'll also have to point out that this thing also works on 3 AAA batteries or when connected to the mains vi an adapter.

Additional features include a built-in white LED source, plus flashing beacon red LED Light, that might prove to be quite useful in case of a blackout.

The device has been designed to withstand some really adverse weather conditions, and for this reason, it also comes with rubber gaskets to seal out moisture, while in the same time being quite easy to carry around, given the fact that it measures 6.38 inches x 6.63 inches x 2.13 inches and weighs around 0.89 pounds.

Pricing for the Eton ARCPT300W American Red Cross Axis Self-Powered Safety Hub with Weather Radio and USB Cell Phone Charger has been set at just around 70 US dollars, which is actually a very OK price point, all things considered.
