The Cyber Society of India says knowledge is used for illegal activities

A few days ago, a reader contacted me claiming that the Cyber Society of India (cysi.in) was planning to ban courses on cyber security and ethical hacking in India. The organization’s representatives argue that those who take such courses will abuse the knowledge for illegal activities.

According to E Hacking News, the president of the Cyber Society of India has confirmed the rumors on Puthiya Thalaimurai, a local TV channel.

India has a lot of ethical hackers, so the news hasn’t been taken too well.

“When taught by proper ethical people ‘newbies’ have a better chance of choosing the ‘ethical way’,” our reader, who chose to remain anonymous, noted. “But if courses get banned and people get introduced to hacking on the dark sites, there are more chances that the person becomes a blackhat.”

It remains to be seen if the Cyber Society of India’s plans materialize. In the meantime, we can expect a lot of protests from India’s white hat hacker community.
