Ethan Hawke is set to make another visit to Romania. His mother, Leslie, has been working in Romania for six years.

On the morning of July 17, 1999, news of the tragic plane crash in which John F. Kennedy Jr. died prompted her to take stock of her situation, and came up with the idea of leaving the country as part of the Peace Corps.
"I just wanted to get out of my life," she said.
"And that sounded like a good way to do it.", Leslie added.

Six months later she was on a flight to Romania as a volunteer, with little idea of what she was getting into. "One of our first discussions," says her close friend Wendy Phillips Kahn, "was, 'Is it Rumania or Romania?' We didn't even know."

Leslie became well-known for her charity activities and founded an American school in the city of Bacau, in eastern Romania, where she has been living from 1999.



Ethan Hawke will join his mother in a charity event, which will take place on October 29, in Bucharest, the capital of Romania.
The organizer of the Halloween Charity Ball, Ovidiu Rom is expecting over 500 guests - business people, diplomats, foreign investors and famous Romanian stars to attend the event, which is part of an anti-poverty campaign.


"Halloween is my favorite holiday, and Bucharest is a great place to be in this time of the year, for it's mysterious and intriguing atmosphere", Hawke said.

The Before Sunsrise and Before Sunset star will next be seen in the upcoming production Billy Dead, based on a novel by Lisa Reardon published in 1998 and described by "Daily Variety" magazine as a "murder mystery that portrays a troubled, working-class Michigan family and the long pent-up secrets of violence and incest that emerge in the aftermath of a brother's death."
