Video game developer Fatshark and publisher Deep Silver announce that they are working on a new title called Escape Dead Island, which is designed to expand the story of the undead-featuring series and to offer a narrative bridge between the first title in the series and the sequel that's being created by Yager.

The game is supposed to be launched in the autumn of this year on the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, for a recommended price of 49.99 dollars or Euro, and on the PC for 39.99 dollars or Euro.

Escape Dead Island is set to include both survival and mystery mechanics and will have a new protagonist called Cliff Calo, who is trying to find out more information about the events that have taken place on the island of Banoi and about the virus which has turned humans into undead.

The two companies state, "Arriving on the island of Narapela, part of the Banoi archipelago, he finds that not everything is as it seems. Haunted by Déjà vu, Cliff will have to make sense of it all throughout the entire game – again and again. This story-driven adventure lets players delve into the Dead Island universe and unravel the origins of the zombie outbreak. Escape is only the beginning…"

The core mechanics of the new title will be similar to those of the first Dead Island game, which means players will have a variety of melee moves and weapons they can use in order to take out the undead.

The new art style is designed to show gamers the unstable nature of the main character and his constant fight with insanity.

Deep Silver also says that all the events featured in Escape Dead Island are designed to have a direct connection with the story that will be told in Dead Island 2.

The publisher adds that the sequel will focus on "a seamless coop multiplayer experience, Dead Island 2 delivers first-person melee combat with dedicated RPG elements such as character development, looting and weapon crafting."

Dead Island 2 will use the Unreal Engine 4 tech and will only be offered on the PC, the PlayStation 4 from Sony and the Xbox One from Microsoft in the first or second quarter of next year.

Until then, fans of the game universe will also be able to play a Zombie Online Multiplayer Arena title called Dead Island Epidemic, which will allow them to become part of one of 3 teams as they battle each other and the undead for survival.
