Ericsson has joined forces with Telef?nica Deutschland in order to build and operate an optical network. As a result, the two companies will have a considerable German market share to gain.

Ericsson will contribute to the building of a DWDM (Dense Wavelenght Divisio Multiplexing) transport network. This brings considerable advantages for Telef?nica, as it will help this company provide wider optical transmission paths coverage. As a result, this company's position on the German market will considerably improve.

"The new transport network is a major step forward in the German market. Here, we rely on an experienced and reliable partner. That is exactly what Ericsson is", says Karl Wilhelm Rohrsen, board member of Telef?nica in Germany. Thus, the partnership proves to be highly convenient for Telef?nica, as it will eventually translate into profit.

The agreement between the two companies will inevitably result in later financial gaining for the Swedish company too. Stefan Kindt, President of Ericsson in Germany, comments: "We are pleased to provide Telef?nica with a highly versatile solution that will allow them to offer new services with minimal incremental investment. It confirms our long-lasting partnership".

The DWDM platform will enable a high quality optical network with the best available technology. This will bring high-speed data, storage, video and voice transmission.

Ericsson currently provides solutions for Internet communications in more than 140 countries. This company's DWDM platform solution is capable of efficiently supporting EDGE and core applications at a total capacity of 6.4 Tbps. Moreover, it offers transparent data, SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) and wavelenght services. Such performances are among the most evolved when it comes to optical networks performances.

The contract signed with Telef?nica is only one of the 100 such agreements for managed services that Ericsson has closed in time. This company is also among the leading ones in the telecommunication industry, with more than 120 million subscribers worldwide.
