Ericsson has decided to collaborate with China's Datang Telecom Technology & Industry Holdings for the development of new TDD solutions. The memorandum of understanding states, amongst other things, that Ericsson has to begin the integration of Datang's TD-SCMA radio access network equipment into the Ericsson 3G mobile communication offerings.

"Leveraging our global leadership position in LTE, we have been firmly committed to evolving TD-SCDMA to TD-LTE," Mats H. Olsson, head of region China & North East Asia of Ericsson, said. "Now we are further strengthening that commitment by this strategic cooperation with Datang. Our promise remains the same: we will always strive for providing the best TDD products and services to the Chinese consumers and to the world."

This will not be the first project that Ericsson and Datang join forces on. The two companies have been working together in order to research the TDD technology since January 2008, through the joint data/research center in Beijing. Apart from the new TDD solutions this collaboration will produce, the project will also enhance the business relationship between the two parties.

Chen Shanzhi, vice president and CTO of Datang Telecom Technology & Industry Group, explained, "Ericsson is the world-renowned telecom solutions and services provider. The cooperation between Ericsson and Datang to jointly develop TDD products and solutions demonstrates the recognition of Datang's innovative R&D results, industrialization and market capabilities in the TDD field from mainstream telecom suppliers in the world."

The two companies strongly believe that this collaboration will eventually lead to the globalization of TD-SCMA and also play a very important role in the TD-LTE industry. The CTO of Datang Telecom also stated that, by establishing this strategic cooperation, both companies would have the necessary resources for the development of quality products that met the requirements of the Chinese market.
