Siminn, one of the Iceland's largest operators, has awarded Ericsson a turnkey contract to plan, deploy and integrate its WCDMA/HSPA network.

Brynjolfur Bjarnason, President of Siminn, says: "Given our big ambitions for Iceland, we need a strong and reliable partner with a proven track record to ensure our success. We believe that Ericsson is best suited for this job."

Under the contract, Ericsson will be the sole supplier of a WCDMA/HSPA radio and core network, as well as transmission equipment. The deal also includes network design, deployment and integration services, network review and knowledge transfer.

Lars Tofft, President of Ericsson Denmark, says: "The contract confirms Ericsson's leading position in delivering cutting-edge WCDMA/HSPA solutions to its customers. We are very exited to extend our strong, long-term partnership with Sminn into the WCDMA/HSPA area. We are looking forward to supporting them in adding the latest WCDMA/HSPA technology to their world-class wireless network."

Siminn is already the leading provider of wireless communications services in Iceland with its Ericsson-supplied GSM network. This contract will give the company the opportunity to meet the future needs of its consumers and enterprise customers.
