Almost two years ago, Napster and Ericsson were joining forces in order to allow users to download music on their mobile phones. Now, they draw a line in order to estimate the results of this partnership that also involved Cellular One as one of the largest providers of wireless services in rural America.

"This agreement gives Cellular One customers an outstanding catalog of music available directly from their wireless handset. This is another example of how consumers are increasingly using their wireless handsets in non-traditional ways and we are making cutting-edge technology and services available to our customer base." says Tom Roberts, Chief Marketing Officer for Cellular One.

Napster makes available to PC and mobile phone users a wide catalogue of songs that can be found for free on the Internet. By registering to Napster, users get access to all these melodies that they can then download. Napster Mobile also offers artist images, ring tones and full-length songs that you can later transfer to your PC.

Currently, its catalog lists over 3 million songs that can be available through a PC or a wireless handset. Even more, a copy of the song purchased through the mobile phone is also sent to the user's PC.

For Napster to go mobile, Ericsson's hosting platforms play a great role. The company has signed a service agreement with Cellular One that makes it responsible with hosting, integrating and managing all operations of the service.

Ericsson provides the wireless Internet access to Mobile Napster. The company currently holds contracts with more than 100 worldwide mobile phone operators and serves over 120 million subscribers everywhere.
