Ericsson has made one more step towards the expansion of its WCDMA/HSPA network with a contract which will turn it into the main provider for telecom services in Indonesia. This new agreement comes as part of the continuous growth that the company has registered recently.

Ericsson has engaged itself in a series of investments in many countries of the world which are meant to be profitable both for them and the people living there. They will expand their WCDMA/HSPA network coverage in Jakarta and Indonesia too from now on.

The company will have to offer to subscribers living here some core, radio access network and transmission equipment, covering network design, deployment, as well as integration, performance and improvement of their existing network. Ericsson's contract with this country is actually an older one which has only been renewed for further collaboration.

"Increasing our coverage and speed is crucial to Indosat's strategy for mobile broadband growth, in line with our rapid-business-growth plan. Thus, we need to have a partner who can meet these challenges and we believe Ericsson is the right partner to support us in providing the latest mobile broadband services to our customers in Greater Jakarta", said Johnny Swandi Sjam, President Director of Indosat.

Ericsson is the supplier of Indosat's GSM and WCDMA/HSPA mobile core network, including the Mobile Softswitch Solution and Packet Core. As a result of the renewed agreement, Indosat will manage to offer mobile broadband services according to their development plan. This will allow the local network to reach data speeds of up to 14.4 Mbps in the case of downlink and 1.8 Mbps for the uplink by the end of this year.

As part of the agreement, Ericsson will also have to upgrade the existing WCDMA network to be IP ready and further invest in its development.
