Wataniya Telecom has recently chosen Ericsson to deliver their Mobile Softswitch Solution for Wataniya's GSM network in Algeria. This way, Ericsson will help the growing number of Algerian subscribers to benefit from a modern network with increased performance, capacity and operational efficiency.

Joseph Ged, COO of Wataniya Telecom Alg?rie, declared: "Wataniya has selected Ericsson for this significant investment because of its technology leadership, the value it delivers in its solutions and its ability to continue to support us in our future requirements. With the network enhancements supported by the Ericsson Mobile Softswitch Solution Wataniya will strengthen its innovation leadership in the market and enjoy a smoother service evolution to all-IP requirements."

Wataniya Telecom operates in Algeria under the name of Nedjma and has at the moment more than 3 million subscribers. Nedjma covers almost all Algeria and it is the first multimedia mobile operator in the country and the first to introduce GPRS roaming and prepaid roaming. It runs a GPRS/EDGE network and supplies data services and advanced wireless voice to its customers. The deal with the Swedish company enables Watanya to make the first steps in creating an all-IP core network.

In addition to the Mobile Softswitch Solution, Ericsson offered to provide various related professional services in order to guarantee the best possible network delivery and accelerated network expansion.

"We are very pleased to be selected by Wataniya Telecom as supplier of the Mobile Softswitch Solution. We look forward to assisting Wataniya to continue providing state-of-the-art quality services and strengthen its market position", said Johan Lallerstedt, head of Ericsson's operations in northern Africa.

About 50 percent of the world's mobile networks with softswitch architecture are based today on the Mobile Softswitch Solution from Ericsson, which makes it the softswitch architecture solution most widely deployed in the world.
