Wedding is on hold because fiance wants a share of star's fortune, says tabloid report

Jessica Simpson is pregnant with her first child. The star has already said she will most likely marry fiance Eric Johnson after giving birth “when the time is right,” but a new report suggests there might be more to the delay.

Simpson is worth an estimated $1 billion (€734.4 million), so it's only natural for her people to think of protecting her estate in the eventuality of a divorce.

The only problem is, OK! Magazine claims in its latest issue, Eric no longer wants to sign the papers, thinking that he is entitled to a good share of Jessica's money if they get married and divorced.

The mag claims to have it on very good authority that this is the real reason why Jess and Eric aren't married already: he no longer wants to sign a prenuptial contract.

Initially, says OK!, he agreed to do it. Now that Jessica is pregnant, he's probably seeing it as a chance to make more money off the marriage with her, says an inside.

“Eric’s completely changed his mind. He started dragging his feet, refusing to sign the prenup they’d drawn up; now he’s laying this whole guilt-trip on her about how he believes in true love and she should, too. A lot of people feel she’s been totally betrayed,” says a spy.

Jessica is devastated over his change of heart: she loves him and wants to start a family with him, but she can't get over his refusal to sign his name on a piece of paper.

Moreover, OK! claims, Joe Simpson, Jessica's dad and manager, is telling her not to marry Eric unless he signs the prenup, which means she's forced to choose between the two most important men in her life, her father and the father of her baby.

To make matters is even worse, it's not Jessica who's put off the wedding so far, the report further argues.

“Eric knows how important it was to her to be married before the baby was born. She wanted to rush the wedding so that her child wouldn’t be born out of wedlock, and she wouldn’t walk down the aisle with this massive bump. And he’s basically used that as a bargaining chip,” another insider explains.

“The problem is that Jess really loves him and wants to make him happy. She’s such a softy at heart, and she’s so sure he’s the one, which makes it harder for her to tell him no,” the spy adds.
