14 DAY TRIAL // TLC has a new reality show and it’s even weirder than “My Strange Addiction,” if you can imagine that. However, judging by the new teaser for “My Crazy Obsession,” it’s not weirder in a negative way.
Meet Eric Ducharme or Merman Eric. Eric is a certified scuba diver who is so obsessed with mermaids that he drives for an hour and a half three times a week so he can indulge in his own fantasy of being one.
His boyfriend and his mom are both ok with his “hobby,” though they’re still bothered that some people laugh or stare whenever they see him, a man in a fishtail, pretending to be an imaginary sea creature.
“I do eat, breathe and sleep mermaids. It's my lifestyle, it's the path in life that I have chosen,” he says.
Laugh at him if you will but Eric is actually earning his living by designing fishtails. He even designed one for Lady Gaga, who used it in a music video.
The clip above is of Eric “at work.” He can hold his breath underwater for 4 minutes and, you have to admit, his little fantasy world is truly beautiful.
