Eric Dane Goes to Rehab for Painkiller Addiction

Actor and ultimate dreamy hunk (according to magazine polls) Eric Dane is in rehab, seeking treatment for an addiction to prescription painkillers. The news is confirmed by his rep, who says he should be back to work on no time.

Dane, who shot to international fame for his role on “Grey’s Anatomy,” has rarely, if ever, offered reasons for tabloid speculation on his personal life.

This only makes his rep’s statement that he is in rehab all the more shocking. Nevertheless, fans shouldn’t worry, it’s more of a pre-emptive strike than a desperate gesture, his publicist tells Radar Online.

Apparently, Eric suffered a sports injury and had to take medication for the pain. He’s now trying to go off the pills.

“Actor Eric Dane voluntarily checked himself into a treatment facility to help him get off of pain medication that he was prescribed for a sports injury that he suffered over the recent hiatus,” the statement says.

In almost no time, Dane should be back to work, as if this stint in rehab never happened.

“He reports back to work next week. Business as usual,” the rep says.

Dane, who has a child with Rebecca Gayheart, is now awaiting their second child. Rebecca’s pregnancy and the imminent arrival of the new family member had a lot to do with Eric’s decision to go to rehab now and not put it off for later.

He “felt he had too much to lose,” an unnamed source who claims to be well in the know with the situation, says for the aforementioned media outlet.

“Eric felt things spiraling out of control and decided he needed to get some help,” adds the so-called friend for Radar.

Even though Dane’s rep insists that there really isn’t more to this than meets the eye, speculation about the real reason for rehab is already taking over the blogosphere.

It’s weird that he chose to seek help precisely now with Rebecca pregnant and not before, some voices are saying – making it look almost as if he’s trying to hide something else from the media, namely an affair.
