Months have gone by and the Pine Trail platform is running rampant on the netbook market, as newer and faster laptops show up on a regular basis. One of these newcomers was put together by Epson and has a faster CPU than most models currently on sale, as well as a significant battery life. This device is known as the Endeavor Na03mini, uses the same old 10.1-inch form factor and has the Intel Atom N470 central processing unit at its heart.
The Atom N470 has a core frequency of 1.83GHz, higher than the 1.66GHz of the Atom N450. The chip is backed up by 1GB of RAM and the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 3150 integrated graphics. There is also a 250GB hard disk drive and the option of replacing it with a 64GB SSD, for a faster boot-up and file-access times.
As far as connectivity and I/O are concerned, Epson doesn't seem to have been especially interested in anything too fancy. 10/100 LAN, WiFi and Optional Bluetooth will handle any web traffic or device intercommunication, and there is also a built-in 3-in-1 card reader. Finally, buyers will have the option of selecting between two batteries. The 3-cell one, as the cheaper option, will keep the netbook running for up to 4.1 hours, whereas the 6-cell one will manage a more than decent 8.4 hours.
As end-users have already noticed, there is no NVIDIA ION 2 or Broadcom Crystal HD on this machine, which means that purchasers will have to make do without advanced multimedia capabilities. Of course, entry-level mobile PCs aren't exactly meant for such things either, instead being focused on reaching as low a price point as possible. The Endeavor Na03mini is priced at $431, runs Windows 7 Starter and will be sure to give travelers something to do on those lengthy train trips.
