The main designer working on the upcoming Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two says that the new game will be more of a sandbox, allowing gamers to choose whatever way they want to solve the challenges and puzzles included using the tools that the game offers.

Warren Spector, the leader of the Junction Point Studios team working on the new Mickey game, told the Official PlayStation Magazine in the United Kingdom that, “A lot of games are all about trying to read the designer’s mind. A designer creates an incredible puzzle and you have to try and solve that puzzle in the one way that the designer lets you.”

He added, “I don’t make games like that. The games that I make are about offering problems to players. In Epic Mickey you’re constantly making choices. It’s all about you deciding what’s important. It’s not about how clever and creative I am – it’s about how clever and creative you are.”

The first Epic Mickey game was based around a paint and thinner mechanic, allowing players to erase and re-create the world around them in order to solve puzzles and make progress.

The same core concept will be used in the sequel, but now gamers will also have the ability to control Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, with the two characters able to cooperate to push the story forward.

The plot of the game will be linked to the Mad Doctor and his attempt to remake the Wasteland in his own image.

A number of new characters will be introduced and Oswald will be able to control enemies with his remote and fly using his ears.

Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two is set to be launched on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, the PlayStation 3 from Sony, the Nintendo Wii and the PC during November.
