14 DAY TRIAL // After a bit of teasing and an almost full-on confirmation, Epic Mickey 2 is now official, with Disney and Junction Point confirming that Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two is coming this year to the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii.
Epic Mickey delivered a clever little experience on the Nintendo Wii back in 2010, but its problematic camera, as well as the fact that it was exclusive to the less than powerful console, meant that it didn’t become as successful as Disney would’ve hoped.
Now, with Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, Disney has once again partnered with Junction Point, the studio of famous games designer Warren Spector.
As we heard last week, the game focuses on cooperative play, as the main player can control Mickey Mouse, while a second one can drop in or drop out and control Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.
“We wanted to make sure Mickey and Oswald have completely different skill sets,” Spector revealed. “Of course, they both walk and run. But Mickey has this ability to use paint and thinner to draw and erase things, where Oswald has a remote control that fires bolts of electricity. That allows Oswald to interact with and control our animatronic enemies in ways Mickey can’t.”
Besides regular gameplay, Epic Mickey 2 also features lots of musical moments, thereby honoring Disney’s entertainment legacy.
“Epic Mickey 2 is the first musical comedy game in the history of videogames,” Spector confirmed. “We’re honoring 80 years of Disney creativity, how could we not have songs in the game?”
The game is coming to the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii, but it seems that the Wii is actually the main platform for the game, while outside developer Blitz is porting it to the PS3 and Xbox 360.
What’s more, the game uses traditional motion controls on the Wii, while on the PS3 it supports the PlayStation Move system. The Kinect on the Xbox 360, however, isn’t supported.
