Developer Irrational Games has announced that Rod Fergusson, who has worked as a director of production at Epic Games, has joined the team that is working on BioShock Infinite, probably becoming the director of product development at the studio.

Fergusson took to Twitter to confirm that he has left Epic Games in order to join Irrational Games, although he did not offer a clear reason for the move.

He was seen as one of the core executives at his former employer, serving as the executive producer working on Gears of War 3 and as the senior producer on the previous Gears of War 2.

The position that Fergusson now occupies was previously linked to Tim Gerritsen, who announced that he was leaving Irrational Games together with art director Nate Wells.

Ken Levine announced yesterday that Wells was set to be replaced by Scott Sinclair, the man who was behind the distinctive visual style of the first titles in the BioShock series.

BioShock Infinite was first announced during 2010, when Irrational Games was still known as 2K Boston, and meant that the second game in the series was pawned off to 2K Australia and 2K Marin.

Since then Ken Levine has been very vocal about promoting Infinite, offering detailed interviews and showing the game at a number of trade shows.

The game was initially set to arrive on October 16 of this year, but 2K Games and Irrational announced that it would be delayed to late February in 2013 in order to give the team the time they needed in order to realize the initial vision of the game.

BioShock Infinite will take place on Columbia, a floating city, and gamers will take on the role of a detective who needs to find and rescue a girl called Elizabeth, who has supernatural powers.
