Stardock, as the publisher, and Ironclad Games, as the developers, are announcing that the Entrenchment micro expansion for Sins of the Solar Empire will be released worldwide on February 25. Players who already own the game will be able to get the expansion using the digital download platform developed by Stardock, called Impulse.

Brad Wardell, who is the president and the Chief Executive Officer of Stardock, stated that “One of Stardock’s key strategies for success with past games has been the incorporation of player feedback from our open betas. We want fans to get the most of this expansion and are making sure we’re delivering the best content possible.”

All the players who pre-ordered the mini expansion have been able to play it for quite some time and Stardock has said on multiple occasions that it plans to push the release date back as far as needed in order to make sure that it releases a balanced game that would rekindle interest in Sins of a Solar Empire.

Entrenchment, as the name implies, is set to offer players an expanded set of defensive strategies that will make key solar systems harder to assault by enemies. On the one hand, players will get access to starbases, which are massive and can deliver a lot of firepower while being unable to move. On the other hand, players will get defensive mine fields and various new technologies for the three races in the game. Stardock is saying that Entrenchment is the first of three such mini expansions set to increase the life span of the game and expand one section of the real time strategy title.

Sins of a Solar Empire, which is a PC exclusive, has earned a lot of Strategy Game of the Year awards from gaming-oriented publications, among them one from Softpedia. The game manages to be epic while also offering a chance to try out a variety of tactics.
