Aspiring filmmakers with great ideas for videos involving Windows 7 PC is at the core of a student's life can win a trip to the 58th international Cannes Lions Festival in France.

The Microsoft: Cannes Video Contest 2011 contest from MOFILM has been accepting submissions since early April 2011, but those interested in participating need not worry, there’s still plenty of time to enter.

The Redmond company will accept new participants until May 30th, 2011, and one lucky winner will get to travel to the Cannes Lions festival between June 19-25th in France, as well as receive some spending money from the software giant.

In addition, there’s also a small surprise for the grand winner, especially if the filmmaker in question enjoyed The Social Network.

“Create an entertaining and engaging 60 - 90 second film that shows how a Windows 7 PC is at the core of a student's life,” revealed Microsoft’s Kristina Libby.

“The grand prize winner receives $8,000 in cash and a trip for 2 to the Cannes Lions Advertising Festival in France where you’ll get the chance to meet our special guest, Jesse Eisenberg, star of The Social Network.”

Microsoft plans to offer four additional prizes on top of the one mentioned above, handing over a total of $21,000 in cash and products.

There is a list of answers for some questions that users might have, as well as the Official Rules of Entry for Microsoft at Cannes 2011.

The good news is that this contest is open to filmmakers worldwide and not limited to the United States (US).

“Once you have uploaded your video it will go through the MOFILM encoding platform which creates standard judging formats,” reads one of the FAQ answers.

“A MOFILM administrator will review the video and you may be contacted about any problems or questions. If your video is not suitable then it may be rejected. You may also be asked to re-edit your video and/or re-submit the video.

“If your video is accepted the MOFILM administrator will approve the video. At this point the full judging panel will be able to view and review your video but judging will not take place until the submission deadline has passed.”
