VoIP provider Ooma announced the release of the Ooma Mobile application for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. The software allows users to make cheap U.S. and international calls from their mobile device.

Working over any Wi-Fi or 3G network, Ooma Mobile enables users to avoid the high international calling rates imposed by mobile operators. By logging in with their Ooma credentials, customers can save up to 90 percent on international calls. Users can achieve further savings by reducing the minutes from their calling plans since they can now save minutes by employing their Ooma account. Moreover, Ooma’s PureVoice technology uses advanced voice compression techniques to minimize bandwidth usage. Up to 60 percent less data traffic can be obtained, enabling longer calling times over a 3G connection.

The Ooma Mobile application can be purchased for a price of $9.99. Calling costs via the application start at 1.9 cents per minute for U.S. calls or applicable rates for international calls. Ooma Premier Customers using Ooma Mobile receive 250 free minutes every month for U.S. calls. For a limited time, Ooma Premier customers who also subscribe to Ooma’s International plan will receive 750 free minutes for calling in the U.S. and to 70 other countries.

"Everything you love about your Ooma home phone system now fits in your pocket and into your mobile lifestyle," said Tami Bhaumik, Vice President of Corporate Marketing at Ooma. "For consumers who want competitive rates for domestic and international calls, exceptional functionality and ease of use, Ooma fits the bill, without sticking you with the bill."

To make calls via the application, users are required to have an Ooma account. Also, customers must already own an Ooma Hub or an Ooma Telo in order to use Ooma Mobile. iPhone, iPod touch and iPad owners can download the application from here.
