Virtual PC 2007 Beta is a free download made available by Microsoft earlier this month. Delivering support for 32-bit Vista, 64-bit Vista and Windows XP as both the host and guest operating
system, Virtual PC 2007 has been enhanced to support AMD and Intel virtualization technologies.
The Redmond Company has revealed that along with the plethora of bugs resolved, and has also introduced a couple of changes to the New Virtual Machine Wizard in Virtual PC 2007. Microsoft is referring to the modifications as being minor, but admits that they target known usability issues.
"The first change is to the operating system configuration page. I have never liked this page myself, as you select an operating system and have Virtual PC perform a number of unknown actions as a result. With Virtual PC 2007 you are now informed of what the result of your operating system selection will be. One other minor change is that you can specify a custom virtual hard disk size if you choose to create a new virtual hard disk as part of the New Virtual Machine Wizard," revealed Microsoft.
Another improvement is related to running the Virtual PC 2007 in Windows Vista without disabling Aero glass. Vista's application changer, Flip-3D, permits the swapping of multiple virtual machines running simultaneously while updating each VM in real time.
