Google is attempting to make it easier for iOS customers to use its search offerings by means of a revamped web application that replaces dull links with large, colorful icons, as well as a menu for additional services.

A finding credited to one of phoneArena’s readers, the new Google search site seems specifically tailored for iOS devices.

The person who accidentally accessed it for a short period of time provided screenshots as evidence of Google’s attempts to make searching on a smartphone more intuitive.

The imagery reveals a completely revamped layout with icons instead of links for the various categories for a search, including images, places, and news.

Tapping on the "More" button brings up a range of additional icons linking to Google sites like Finance, YouTube, and Maps.

Google has not announced any plans to introduce a new application, so we’re left guessing that the search giant is working up a web app, at most, catering to iOS customers and perhaps users of other platforms as well.

Google has made a lot of efforts to provide the iOS user base with a near-desktop experience and the latest leak suggests the Mountain View search giant is one step closer to achieving that goal.

But such an experience would be even more justified on the iPad, where the increased screen real estate would leverage all the enhancements tenfold.

With the web app now pulled, as the source confirms, we can expect Google to make an announcement in the days to follow.

The brief availability of the new web app indicates that testing is now being extended outside of Mountain View; therefore, it shouldn’t be long before we get to inform our readers that Google’s new service is live.
