The official Apple Store application for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad has been updated to version 1.3 to deliver an enhanced in-store mode with new options like build-to-order Macs, the ability to see how many customers are in line before you, and more.

Updated in light of the Apple Store 2.0 retail initiative, the official Apple Store iOS app is touted by Apple as being “the best way to get the most from the Apple Store — whether you’re on the go or at the store.”

“Wherever you are, you can research and buy products, read reviews, make Genius Bar and One to One appointments, view in-store events, and more,” reads the official description.

“And when you’re in an Apple Retail Store, you can request help, receive meet-up alerts, and more.”

Indeed, these functions are now more useful than ever as the Apple Store app becomes aware of its location as the customer enters their local retail store, with the software listing available workshops, appointments, the next opening for Mac training, etc.

The app checks to see who’s ‘on watch’ that day at the store and shows a picture of the Concierge waiting in front of the store with valuable information for the customer.

“Enhanced in-store mode lets you get help and support quickly when you’re at an Apple Retail Store,” reads the Apple Store 1.3 changelog.

Another new ability is “custom-configure a new Mac with the options you want.”

As shown in image #3, customers have build-to-order options right within the app, which makes it easy to choose a configuration tailored for different needs (such as more, RAM, or a bigger hard drive).

Key benefits posed by the Apple Store iOS app include the ability to research and buy the latest Apple products, accessories, and software and get them shipped to your door; request help, check in for reservations, and receive meet-up alerts when in-store; and make Genius Bar and One to One reservations and sign up for workshops and events.

We are getting reports that Apple’s store-app, previously restricted to US customers, is now usable across Europe in select territories.
