A baby Rothschild's giraffe was born at England's Paignton Zoo only a few days ago, on August 20. Its parents, mother Janica and father Yoda, are besides themselves with joy, keepers maintain.

Information shared with the public says that the calf was born in the first hours of the morning.

Since giraffes give birth standing up, there is little denying this calf's arrival into this world was by no means as smooth as it would have liked it to be.

“The first thing that happens to a baby giraffe when it is born is a six foot drop onto the ground – it’s a hard way to start!” zoo employee Neil Bemment explains, as cited by Zoo Borns.

Presently, zoo staff are unable to say whether the calf is a boy or a girl.

Besides, they are clueless about how much it weighs and how tall it is, seeing how they haven't yet had the chance to get close enough to examine it.

They are confident it won't be long until they have an answer to these questions.
