The E-reader market has grown rather well over the past month and it seems that it will only keep growing as companies continue to develop new models and technologies for the devices. Still, while companies are developing new types of displays, flexible e-paper, color screens and new ways to extend product life, one company has decided to be more conservative by launching a 6-inch E-Ink Vizplex-enabled e-reader. This device's manufacturer is Energy Systems, which promises that its e-book reader will last for up to 6,000 page turns on a single battery charge.

In addition to the Vizplex 6-inch greyscale display, the Energy Book 2061 e-reader has 64MB of internal memory and up to 16GB of extra storage via the SD/SDHC expansion cards. A 2GB card is included in the main product offer and consumers will have books from 100 classics of universal literature in Spanish, English and French available to read. The device will be able to perform book searching, page-marking, zooming, image viewing and playing MP3 files (earphones included), among other things.

The e-book reading device is powered by a Samsung ARM9 processor and supports PDF and EPUB files, in addition to many standard formats. Power will be provided by a lithium battery that can be recharged via USB (the AC/DC adapter Europlug-USB and USB cable are included in the product offering). The “paper-like display” is “harmless” to the eyes and has 16 levels greyscale and a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels.

The Energy Systems Energy Book 1060 e-reader measures 178 x 129 x 10mm, weighs 228 grams and is designed with a user-friendly, multilingual interface. Currently, there is no word on US availability but the e-reader is scheduled to become available in Europe on March 12. Content will be available through Google Books and the price is currently suggested to be of 258 Euro.
