This is an 8” tablet using the decent 4:3 screen format

Energy System is apparently preparing to launch its new Android ICS tablet called i8. The new tablet features a rather atypical 8” diagonal size and the rare 4:3 screen format.

Many of our readers might remember that LCD manufacturing companies gave up on the 4:3 screen format and went for the widescreen 16:10 display format instead.

They were advertising that 16:10 is the future and that widescreen FullHD content was best displayed on such a screen.

The reality was, in fact, completely different, as the companies were only trying to sell people less for more.

The new monitors were more expensive and, despite the longer diagonal size, the screen was actually smaller, and thus, cheaper to manufacture.

People never really realized the change they were forced into and they adopted the format without too much thought.

Seeing how naive and uninformed the buyers were, LCD companies quickly changed to the 16:9 format claiming that this is the “real” FullHD format.

The reality behind the move was actually the same and they were selling even cheaper stuff for the same or even higher prices than before.

So when you see Apple’s 4:3 tablets you need to remember that those might actually give you more screen to work with than the usual 10” tablet using a 16:10 or 16:9 display.

Therefore, priced right between the 8GB Google Nexus 7 and the 16GB version, the i8 features a larger 8” screen, but it uses the 4:3 screen format and the actual display area is considerably greater than that on Google’s Nexus 7.

For those who really want a bigger screen than what Nexus 7 has to offer and don’t mind the lesser 1Ghz ARM Cortex A8 processor, the Energy System i8 is probably exactly what they were looking for.

The rest of the specifications are: 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, 2MP rear camera and VGA front-facing webcam, WirelessN and HDMI output, all powered by a 3800 mAh battery.

The new i8 Android tablet is already listed here.
