Activision has teamed up with id Software to develop MMO Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, a game of two factions (the humans and the Strogg) which is currently in development for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation3. Nerve Software has been assigned for the development of the game's Xbox 360 release while the PS3 version is being worked on by Z-Axis, developer of X-Men: The Official Game.

So, the invasion takes off. The first thing a player must do is choose to fight in one of five unique classes, in either the EDF (Earth Defense Force - humans), or the barbaric alien Strogg armies. Each has unbelievable fire power so there will be no problem in choosing your team. Troops make use of over 40 vehicles, whether they are more conventional ones or modern ones, deployable structures, and unique defense systems. Players can also use helicopters and anti-gravity ships to lend firepower from the air, while teams establish bases, deploy defense structures, artillery, radar, and advanced forward-command systems into enemy territory while constructing and demolishing obstacles.

The game features very realistic and dynamic lighting and shadowing, (check out the moon), which make battles fought during the night very interesting and appealing. Activision and id Software haven't ruled out the laws of the universe either and of course the planet's atmosphere, weather, and vegetation that combine to create a landscape of such realism, that you'll wish scientists at NASA will in fact find life on other planets.

A totally new rendering technology developed by id Software called MegaTexture crunches millions of polygons to make a uniquely detailed landscape, in which you can practically see the horizon like you would in real-life. No time or place for its release so far, but it does sound very promising, wouldn't you say?
