Endian Firewall Community, a "turn-key" Linux security distribution that turns every system into a full-featured security appliance with Unified Threat Management (UTM) functionality, is now at version 3.0 Beta 2.

Endian Firewall Community 3.0 Beta 2 is a major release in the series and comes with a lot of new features. If you feel uncomfortable with a beta version, a stable release, 2.5.2, has been made available only a short while ago.

Users can upgrade from a previous version, but they will have to be careful when doing so. The developers have offered some advice in this matter.

“For upgrades from the Development Channel (bleeding edge): please note that after the upgrade you may need to re - configure some modules,” said the developers in the official announcement.

Highlights of Endian Firewall Community 3.0 Beta 2:

• HTTPS filtering has been introduced in an effort cu enhance the web security; • Domain Management and SMTP Delivery Status Notification configuration have been implemted; • The Virtual Private Networking has been improved: Encryption (Null, 3DES, CAST-128, AES 128/192/256-bit, Blowfish 128/192/256-bit, Twofish 128/192/256-bit, Serpent 128/192/256-bit, Camellia 28/192/256-bit), Hash algorithms (MD5, SHA1, SHA2 256/384/512-bit, AESXCBC), and IKEv2; • Support has been added for TUN mode, for OpenVPN; • A connection page has been added for VPN users; • User management for OpenVPN is now available; • Integrated certificate authority has been implemented; • External certificate authority support has been added; • User password and certificate management (two-factor authentication) are now available for the users; • Live network traffic monitoring (powered by ntopng) has been added; • System status graphs are no longer lost at every reboot.
