Andrei Dumitrescu: This column was absent last week as I had a three-day holiday in order to enjoy the final climbing stages of Il Giro and catch up on some reading, including the Shadow Saga from Orson Scott Card.

This means that now I plan to tackle two new releases during this weekend, with most of my waking hours devoted to strategy in all its forms.

Wargame AirLand Battle is a deep real-time game from Eugen Systems, which gives players command on hardware from both NATO and the Warsaw Pact in the middle of World War III.

The game is beautiful, fast, engaging and captures the atmosphere of the ‘80s perfectly.

I admit I have more to learn about the game and will read about Cold War military doctrine before playing in order to see whether this influences my performance.

At the same time, The Old Gods expansion for Crusader Kings II, the most ambitious so far, brings the start date to the IX century and allows gamers to play as Pagans, including the mighty Vikings, as they terrorize and invade a fledgling Christian Europe.

Andrei Dobra: This weekend will be dedicated to Grid 2, as I want to complete all the remaining optional races as well as delve in deeper into the game's online mode.

While hardcore simulator fans might not approve of the arcade direction taken by Codemasters with the new title, I'm quite thrilled with the experience and I want to continue gaining more and more fans.

When I am not racing to glory on different circuits from around the world, I'll probably jump back into Borderlands 2, as the combination of the Psycho Bandit DLC and the new support for the Steam Trading Card system has once again sparked my interest in the post-apocalyptic first-person shooter from Gearbox Software.
