Playing Sacred 3, Wargame Red Dragon and Game of Thrones

Andrei Dumitrescu: The summer drought for major video game launches continues, and that means I have a lot of time on my hands to indulge in my classic obsession this weekend, even if my gaming time will be limited because I plan to spend the evenings outside, taking part in a big musical festival that will take my mind off the virtual world.

In the remaining time, I will certainly fire up Wargame Red Dragon, the military strategy title from Eugen Systems that has recently received a big and free downloadable content pack with plenty of new units for Eastern European nations.

I tend not to play the Czechs, the Poles and the East Germans too much, but they now have access to some pretty cool hardware, much of it based on late Cold War USSR prototypes.

This means that I will be testing their ability to create balance decks and then take them to the battlefield to see how they stand the test of combat against a human opponent.

The current Alliance versus Alliance phase of Game of Thrones Ascent is still running, and despite some big losses I continue to send Sworn Swords into combat for the glory of my Fire and Blood allies in order to secure a good spot and some nice rewards.

Radu Haulica: Over the course of this weekend, I'll be engaging in some campy action with Sacred 3. I normally like action role-playing games a lot, to the point that I can play them as if they weren't just mindless grindfests for marginally better gear.

Sacred 3, however, is an entirely different beast, judging from the little bits and pieces of it I've seen online, and it's definitely not Sacred, as the community on Steam actually wanted to label the game. Unfortunately, as Valve has no sense of humor, they weren't able to get away with it.

That's a pity, but nonetheless, I'm determined to find out for myself how much of a "not Sacred" game Sacred 3 is, and I'm even willing to offer it a chance to surprise me by not minding the fact that there's a big fat tacked to its name.

In any case, I'll come back with a review for the game next week, so stay tuned, in case you want to find out how the game actually is, in addition to not really being a sequel to Sacred.
