Playing PayDay 2, Europa Universalis IV and Spelunky

Andrei Dumitrescu: I might never again be able to break apart from Europa Universalis IV, the new grand strategy game from Paradox Interactive and its internal development team.

You can read more about the game in my full Softpedia review but, in a nutshell, the experience is smooth, interesting and manages to capture many of the historic trends of the Middle Ages.

This weekend, I will try to take smaller kingdoms, mostly from inside the Holy Roman Empire, through history, trying to dominate the core of Europe before moving towards Russia and the Mediterranean.

The game also has integration with the Steam Workshop, which will make it easier than ever for teams of fans to produce new content and enhancements and then distribute them to the community.

And as if all that is not enough, the team will clearly continue the sort of downloadable content strategy that it has pioneered with Crusader Kings II, with both small and large packs priced for a wide audience.

Andrei Dobra: This weekend, I'll be celebrating my birthday and, besides going out with friends and staying in with family, I'll try to squeeze in some gaming time.

First and foremost, I'll be donning my mask in Payday 2 and try to execute all sorts of heists and missions in the impressive four-player co-op shooter.

Developer Overkill managed to make a complex experience with the new title and the thrill of executing perfect robberies and some not-so-perfect ones is hard to beat by other games.

I'll probably alternate things with Spelunky, the procedurally generated puzzle platformer, which finally appeared on PC earlier this month.

While the game is quite grueling, it does manage to pull you in and keep you hooked on it. Sadly, there are plenty of difficulty spikes and quite a lot of bugs relating to enemies and hit detection, so I hope I won't get too mad with the game.
