Male stars like Zac Efron, “High School Musical” heartthrob, Chace Crawford of the “Gossip Girl” fame and Jared Leto (“Requiem for a Dream,” “Fight Club” and the rock band 30 Seconds to Mars) have turned their signature look into a standard for most men in their 20s and early 30s. Sadly, as a recent piece in GateCrasher also points out, that look is about to be discarded as all three have opted for new ‘dos over Independence weekend.

These three actors – although they’re not alone in sporting the man bangs and rocking them better than any other ‘do – have caused waves of hysteria and admiration with their overcombed locks that barely allowed one a closer look at their piercing eyes. The seemingly careless ‘do always hid at least half an hour in the hands of an expert stylist, it is being said, but it was precisely this “disorderly” air about it that made it such a hit. Because of these three stars, men of their age have started to ask for it in hair salons all over the world.

“Thank God, it’s official: Man-bangs are on their way out. Three of the poster boys for long locks – Chace Crawford, Jared Leto and Zac Efron – are trying out shorter looks. There must have been a memo floating around Hollywood last weekend, ‘cause they all flaunted their new ‘dos for the Fourth.” GateCrasher writes. Since these three men are celebs who are actually emblems for an entire generation of actors – not to mention idols with millions of women worldwide – it’s no wonder that word of their new ‘dos spread in the media and on the Internet like wild fire.

Celebrity stylist Cecilia Care states that the drastic change comes as these men’s response to the evolution of their acting careers. Speaking with GateCrasher, the stylist says it’s their way of ditching the teenage boy who is often up to mischief image in the hope that it would expand the range of offers coming their way. It is also a move towards being noted for their own personality (and, of course, professional achievements), as opposed to as part of a larger trend, Care explains.

“When stars drastically change their image, it’s usually because they want better or more mature roles.” Care adds. Still, going for such a drastic change in the case of these three men can prove a bit risky, the stylist believes, since they were as famous for their professional achievements as they were for their always perfectly coiffed hair. “Their hair was each of their signature looks. It’ll be interesting to see how the girls react to them now.” Care concludes by saying.
