Dawn Robinson thinks her character should be in the film

Lifetime has found a niche for small-budget TV movies and it’s making sure it’s exploring it as much as it can: biopics. This week’s En Vogue film isn’t exactly a biopic, but it does come pretty close, because it shows the 3 members of the famous ‘90s band coming together again.

However, the story is fictional, as you can see from the trailer and the behind the scenes video embedded below. Terry Ellis, Cindy Herron, and Rhona Bennett still make up En Vogue in real life, but in the film, they’re reunited for one single purpose, that of saving a theater from being shut down.

From the 3 former members of En Vogue, Dawn Robinson is the most upset about this movie being made, even though she gave up all her En Vogue rights many years ago, when she left the band.

She’s been telling the media that she’s thinking of suing Lifetime for not including her character, if not her actual self, in the movie. If she decides not to sue, she will most definitely boycott the film.

“I have no interest in watching it. It looks horrible. I'm sad for them,” she tells TMZ in a statement. “After seeing the Aaliyah biopic, I'm extremely worried that this is going to be a trainwreck.”

This sounds a lot like sour grapes, doesn’t it? She’s not in the group anymore – and hasn’t been involved in it for over a decade – and this isn’t a biopic, so there is exactly zero reason for her to be in the film.

“En Vogue Christmas” airs this weekend on Lifetime, one week after the Aaliyah biopic Robinson mentions. That one was definitely a trainwreck, she’s not exaggerating about that. So tell me, will you be seeing this one (too)?
