Bitdefender scanner added to improve malware detection

Emsisoft rolled out today version 3 for their malware detection utility, Emergency Kit. The fresh revision is still free and portable, so you can launch it from a removable device.

The details about modifications are pretty scanty at the moment, but the big news is that the new build no longer relies on Ikarus scanning solution.

Instead, the German developer integrated the new scanner from Bitdefender, just like in the case of Emsisoft Anti-Malware 7.0 (reviewed here).

Emsisoft Emergency Kit is a package of tools that can help you scan and clean up infected systems. None of the programs requires installation.

Because of the type of tools it features (namely HiJackFree and BlitzBlank), Emsisoft Emergency Kit is aimed primarily at advanced users; but the dual-engine scanner has a graphical interface, which can be handled by less seasoned users as well.

Update: The list of changes is now available, and besides the improvements derived from replacing Ikarus scanner with Bitdefender’s, the new release brings to the table a better first scan engine.

Furthermore, it features new performance settings for configuring CPU usage of the scanner, better threat removal and the possibility to restore registry entries affected by malware, as well as faster updates via small, incremental downloads.
