Emsi Software has announced today both on Twitter and through their newsletter service that they have taken over all support and development of Online Armor, the highly acclaimed firewall. The antivirus developer made the move after two years of marketing and selling of the Australian firewall to the German-speaking market and also acquired the developers of the firewall.

To celebrate the takeover, Emsi Software promotes both products at the price of one. The 50% price cut available until the end of July gets you an outstanding firewall and an antivirus that boasts extraordinary detection capabilities for $40.

Currently, Online Armor is available in three versions, Plus, Premium and Free, and it looks the freebie has already been dropped as it is not present on Emsi Software’s list of products. Worth mentioning is the fact that the Plus edition of the firewall integrates Emsisoft’s dual engine protection against malware, which already makes it a complete product.

The differences between the paid editions of the firewall and the free one are pretty steep, the latter missing security features for online banking, phishing filter, mail shield or DNS spoofing protection. However, the lack of these does not keep its basic firewall abilities, which are above the standard.

As far as Emsi Software is concerned, the company relies on a large set of instruments dedicated to offering the best protection against malware. The lead product is Emsisoft Anti-Malware, followed closely by Mamutu, a behavior-based real-time monitor. The list continues with freebies designed for specific purposes such as process monitoring or malware scanning.

Emsisoft concentrates all its efforts to develop reliable tools that can easily deter malware attacks or clean infected systems. As of today, its portfolio has been enriched with a new product bent on monitoring communication to and from your computer and signaling malicious traffic.

UPDATE: The free version of Online Armor will not be dropped by the antivirus developer. It is available on Online Armor product page.
