One of the most talked about moments at the Emmys 2013 Sunday night, beside the always-controversial In Memoriam segment, was the decision to have Carrie Underwood cover a Beatles classic, “Yesterday.”

You can see her performance in the video above.

It was incorporated in a special segment hosted by Don Cheadle, which highlighted some of the biggest events in the history of television of 50 years ago.

They included the announcement of Kennedy’s assassination and The Beatles’ first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show. Then Carrie came in to sing and the Internet has not stopped talking about it ever since.

Many of her fans believe that she did the song justice, but perhaps as many other music lovers say that she butchered it or, at its best, that she was an incredibly odd and uninspired choice to perform it.

As far as she’s concerned, Carrie already got all the appreciation she needed.

“The coolest thing about singing ‘Yesterday’ on the #Emmys is the sweet letter I got from @PaulMcCartney giving me his blessing to sing it!” she tweeted after the show.
