The 2010 Emmy Awards, celebrating the crème de la crème in television for the past year, took place on Sunday in LA. During the red carpet ceremony, January Jones’ gown was deemed the worst of the night.

The “Mad Men” star chose to rock a layered Versace gown in electric blue, which was both shiny and came with cone cups for her breasts, quite a unique combination.

It also had a train but was short in the front. However, it was the shiny scale-y texture of it that seems to have bothered most fashion critics, who didn’t waste one second in calling the actress the worst dressed of the night.

What’s even worse, E! Online informs, is that all those who had something bad to say about the “bad” dresses on the red carpet did so while footage of them (doing so, of course) was being played on the big screen inside.

That is to say, critics bashed January Jones and her choice for a dress while she watched them trashing her, as she was seated inside the Nokia Theater waiting for the awards ceremony to begin.

Now, her dress may have been a rather odd choice, E! believes, but it certainly wasn’t as bad as to warrant this type of behavior. If it had been, Jones (or anyone else in her position) still didn’t deserve this.

“Critics (including us) had a lot to say about January Jones’ structured Versace frock on the red carpet last night,” E! begins by saying. The problem is that many chose to speak their mind right then and there.

“They showed her on the freaking JumboTron and then they were talking smack about her,” Kathy Griffin said for E! at one of the Emmy after-parties. It was embarrassing and certainly uncalled for.

“Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush was roasting the Mad Men star on a preshow broadcast that was played into the theater – where the actress and other celebs were seated, waiting for the awards ceremony to begin!” E! explains.

“It was ‘very uncomfortable and bizarre,’ said Griffin – who’s no stranger to awkward moments – adding, ‘Everyone is wrong. I love the way January Jones looks tonight’,” the e-zine writes.

“True Blood” star Sam Trammell also found the moment very awkward, saying, “They were doing all the misses while we were in the theater. It was so uncool.”

Of course, not all fashion critics believe Jones and her stylist missed the mark in choosing the Versace creation. Granted, it’s not something one sees at every awards ceremony and it would have been better if longer in the front, but January carried it very well – and looked stunning in it, others say.
