While his country struggles with famine and food shortages, North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un is said to be suffering from an odd affliction: he's dying because he's eating too much fatty cheese. Though 31 years old, the supreme commander of the North Koreans is so enamored with the Swiss cheese that it's almost put him into an early grave.

The Daily Star reports that Kim has a soft spot for the Swiss cheese type called Emmental, so big that he eats huge quantities of it and it's beginning to be life-threatening. Kim is said to have fallen in love with this particular type of cheese when he was a student back in Switzerland.

Kim eats Emmental every day while the country struggles with famine

His addiction has gotten worse since he arrived home and his country has been faced with numerous problems. The tubby Kim is said to now stuff his face several times a day, as no meal is without his favorite type of dairy.

Unfortunately for him, this particular type of cheese is very fattening, since it is made up of a whopping 45% fat. Since he's been snacking on Emmental cheese, his waistline is said to have exploded. People in his entourage are afraid that if Kim keeps this up, he is going to eat himself to death.

The North Korean despot was last seen at a public ceremony in Phyonyang to mark the 20th anniversary of the death of the nation's founder, his grandfather Kim Il-sung. At this parade, he looked extremely plump and he was said to be limping on his right leg. He maintained a gloomy expression on his face throughout the proceedings.

Tired of importing the cheese, he sent out people to a French college to learn to make it; they were denied

His passion for this particular type of cheese is said to be so big, that he had state officials take a crash course in cheese-making, because he was appalled by the poor quality of dairy products in his country. Normally, that wouldn't be a bad thing, but since the population in his country is starving, it's a really vile thing to do.

Kim sent several people in training at an acclaimed French dairy production college to pick up the fine art of cheese-making, but it is said that the college in question “politely but firmly denied” his envoys access to the classes, thus leaving Kim to procure his cheese from elsewhere.

As a side-note, the UN estimates that close to 3 million people in North Korea are affected by under-nutrition and a disturbing lack of protein and fats in their diet. To be obese from overeating in such a country should be a crime.
